The Charter Schools Financial Management Certification Program is designed for charter school leaders and personnel who are responsible for school budgets, accounting, payroll processing, purchasing and ensuring a school's financial policies are in line with state and federal laws.

The program was developed with input from the Georgia Department of Education, the State Charter Schools Commission and the Georgia Charter Schools Association to create relevant material for this certification.

  • program consists of 6 required courses

  • participants must pass an online exam for each class

  • participants are given 3 years to complete all courses

Once certification is achieved, 12 hours of approved continuing education through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government are required every two years to maintain certification. The two-year reporting period begins January 1 of the odd year and ends on December 31 of the even year. No continuing education is required in the calendar year the certification is earned. For those certified one year but less than two during the reporting period, six hours will be required during the initial certification period.
