The Spanish/English Legal Interpreter Certificate course provides training for bilingual individuals who speak English and Spanish and who are seeking an intensive introduction to interpreting work in the legal field or in a court system. The content focuses on the three modes of interpretation used in court interpreting and the development of necessary skills for the State Licence oral certification exam. Cultural considerations, courtroom etiquette and protocol, and ethics of court interpreting will be discussed.

Prerequisites

A college level language proficiency in both English and Spanish is strongly recommended for those seeking to take the course. If a participant does not meet the language requirement, no refund of previously paid course fees will be given.

During this Spanish/English Legal Interpreter course, you will meet on Saturdays from 9:00am-5:00pm at the UGA Gwinnett campus, October 12, 19, and 26, 2024. You will meet at 8:30 on November 2 and 9, 2024. Additional assignments required outside the classroom will be completed online and may include readings, online quizzes, and discussion board posts.
