Are you a high school student eager to elevate your arts practice? Study under acclaimed faculty at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at UGA through the week-long UGA Summer Art Camp. Cycle through drawing and painting, photo practices, printmaking and book arts, and fiber and 3D art. Campers will wrap the week with a group exhibition open to families and friends.

The UGA Summer Art Camp launched in 2024 as an intensive day camp studio experience rotating across various media with 70 participating campers across the region. In 2025, the camp expanded offerings to include overnight stay in university housing in partnership with Summer Academy Camps. The 2026 camp will be held June 15–19, inviting students to enjoy hands-on instruction in a collegiate art environment with the possibility of onsite housing.

The UGA Summer Art Camp offers an exclusive opportunity to grow as an artist with access to state of the art facilities within a beautiful university campus in Athens, Georgia. Our campers receive premium instruction by UGA art faculty in fully-equipped studios, visits to the Georgia Museum of Art and the UGA Art Library, lunches at the university’s dining halls, and building new connections with passionate art students in Georgia.

All skill levels and arts backgrounds are welcome to participate in our camp! Campers must be aged 14-17.

Fiber and 3D Art: Campers will explore the versatility of fabric as fine art media in addition to delving into 3D practices. This studio will offer fiber techniques including embellishment, embroidery, weaving, and wearable art. Sculptural experimentations in-the-round will approach assemblage, upcycling, wrapping, and the orchestration of non-traditional materials like found objects. Camper’s three-dimensional awareness of space, site and self will be heightened!

Drawing and Painting

Campers will be introduced to numerous techniques through the use of acrylic paint and other drawing media. Participants will explore and experiment with painting in layers and dynamic color and design to create unique figure-ground art.

Photo Practices

Campers will be trained in digital imaging and photo practices that will give them an increased knowledge in how cameras, studio lighting, editing, and portraiture work.

Printmaking and Book Arts

This course introduces a variety of relief printmaking techniques, including linocut, woodcut, monoprint, and monotype. Students will learn the complete process of creating relief prints—from image transfer and carving to plate and paper registration, printing, and editioning. In addition, these prints will be incorporated into hand-crafted artist books using a range of binding methods. By the end of the course, each student will have produced multiple journals and artist books featuring their own prints!
