The spotlight isn't just for actors—it’s for the crew who builds the world.

Step out of the audience and into the control booth. Behind the Curtain is an immersive, hands-on deep dive into the technical wizardry that makes theater happen. Designed for builders, makers, engineers, and artists, this camp gives you the keys to the scene shop and the Fine Arts stage.

Over one intensive week, you won't just learn about production—you will physically build a show from the ground up. Working with university-level equipment, you will master the fundamentals of:

  • Scenic Construction: Learn professional shop safety and use power tools to build flats, craft props, and construct a physical set.
  • Lighting & Video: Learn to paint with light and integrate video elements to set the mood and atmosphere.
  • Sound Engineering: Explore the audio tools used to create immersive soundscapes.

The Week at a Glance:

  • Mon-Wed: Intensive rotation through the Scene Shop, Lighting Grid, and Sound Booth.
  • Thu-Fri: It’s "Tech Week." You will combine your set pieces, lighting designs, and audio cues to build a fully realized environment on the Fine Arts stage.
  • The Showcase: The week culminates Friday afternoon with a technical showcase, where your craftsmanship takes center stage.
Who is this for? This is the perfect camp for students interested in engineering, architecture, design, or theater production. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to roll up your sleeves and create.
