This one-week workshop is designed for high school students (ages 14–17) who are interested in exploring how a familiar American play can be transformed into something fresh, personal, and meaningful to their own lives. We’ll start with a few short scenes from Almost, Maine—chosen because they’re simple, flexible, and ideal for collaboration. After reading the scenes together, the students will break into small groups and create their own updated versions. Some may change the setting, some the tone, and others may rewrite the characters entirely. As they revise, Hazael and I will help them think through the basics of acting, staging, and storytelling in ways that feel accessible and fun. By the end of the week, each group will rehearse and share a short performance of their adapted scene in a relaxed showcase setting.
