As financial stewards, county commissioners know that budget decisions made today impact the county’s financial health well into the future.  With the recession having ended, now is the time to create a plan for your county’s future and figure a way out of short-term budget fixes. From this advanced specialty track course, participants will better understand the inter-relationship between short-term budgeting, capital budgeting, fiscal policies, and a strategic plan with a county’s long-term financial sustainability. Commissioners will also learn about using key financial indicators to assess a government’s overall financial health. To maximize learning outcomes, it is recommended that participants have a basic understanding of county budgeting and the budget process prior to class attendance. The other courses in the Revenue and Finance Specialty Track are Efficiencies in County Finance, Debt Financing, Federal and State Budgeting, Intergovernmental Agreements and Private Partnerships, Tax and Revenue Policies, and The County Audit Process.
