Effective community leadership requires the ability to communicate effectively. While communication seems like a simple concept, miscommunication creates confusion, conflict, and frustration and can diminish a commissioner’s capacity for effective leadership. In this Leadership Development specialty track course, Voice of Leadership, you will focus on enhancing your communication skills while engaging in meaningful activities related to situations you may face as a public official.  Through practice, exercises, and an increased understanding of the components of effective communication, you will be able to better understand people and situations, resolve differences, build trust and respect with your constituents and fellow commissioners, and construct environments where you and others are free to creatively solve problems and generate new ideas. The other courses in this specialty track are Board Dynamics, Collaborative Leadership, Leadership in Local Government, Motivation and Management, Personal power and Influence, Team Building, and Understanding Leadership Styles.
