Collaboration is characterized by a purposeful relationship in which all parties involved choose to cooperate in order to accomplish a shared outcome. Collaboration exists at the intersection of leadership and relationship. This means that collaborative leadership is relational rather than positional leadership, and less about “I” and more about “we.” This Leadership Development specialty track course addresses what collaboration is, essential requirements for successful collaboration, how leaders make collaboration work, and key leadership lessons learned from successful collaboration. Participants will have an opportunity to experiment with collaboration in a creative problem-solving exercise, and to plan for collaboration using a real-life county service delivery challenge that cuts across sectors and jurisdictions.
