Conflict is inevitable in all walks of life.  The ability to effectively manage and or resolve conflict is an important skill for county commissioners. Well managed conflict can lead to creative, sustainable solutions and enhanced relationships.  In this six hour advanced course, participants will explore the positive and negative aspects of public conflict, the importance of understanding the role and sources of conflict in local government, and the role of the county commissioner in resolving conflict.  Furthermore, participants will explore their personal conflict styles and how they can become more intentional in choosing the best style depending on the type of conflict and who is at the table.  Unmanaged public conflict can reduce government efficiency, divide communities, demoralize public servants and lead to a loss financial and non-financial resources.  This course is in the Intergovernmental Relations specialty track.  The other course in this track are: The Art of Negotiation; Building Your City-County Relationship; Constitutional Officers; Crisis Management; Federal and State Relations; Regional Cooperation; and Working with School Boards, Authorities and Other Partners.
