Four core courses are required to complete the certificate. Courses listed below have three delivery methods - Classroom, Live Virtual OR Online, Self-Study. To select Live Virtual or Classroom, select the course title to view dates.Twelve elective hours are also required and will be completed online. A Finance Officer Project is the final requirement for the certificate.

Local governments require sound financial management practices to operate efficiently and effectively. We provide a variety of educational opportunities for local governments in the areas of governmental accounting, budgeting and other financial subjects. Courses cover topics that are pertinent to finance practitioners at all levels of government. The Local Financial Training Program offers the Local Finance Officer Certification Program and the Primary Governmental Accounting Series. We also offer a growing number of convenient online courses to help reduce travel costs.

Level II Certification

This certification requires completion of four core courses, 12 elective course hours and a financial management project within a three-year time frame. Once certification is achieved, 15 hours of approved continuing education through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government are required every two years to maintain certification. The two-year reporting period begins January 1 of the odd year and ends on December 31 of the even year. No continuing education is required in the calendar year the certification is earned. For those certified one year but less than two during the reporting period, six hours will be required during the initial certification period.
