8 Courses Required

The Budget and Financial Management Certification Program offers an overview of the state's budget and fiscal management cycle. Current courses that are offered include: Language of Accounting, GA@WORK Literacy and Orientation*, Revenue and Expenditure Analysis, Budget Administration for State Government, Revenue Administration for State Government, Debt Administration for State Government, Internal Controls for State Government, and Purchasing Basics in State Government.

Once certification is achieved, six contact hours of approved continuing education through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government are required every two years to maintain certification. The two-year reporting period begins January 1 of the odd year and ends on December 31 of the even year. No continuing education is required in the calendar year the certification is earned. For those certified one year but less than two during the reporting period, three contact hours will be required during the initial certification period.

*GA@WORK Literacy and Orientation replaces the course TeamWorks Literacy and Orientation. Participants who have achieved credit for TeamWorks Literacy and Orientation are not required to complete GA@WORK Literacy and Orientation to earn Budget and Financial Management Certification. Either course will meet the requirement.
